Site Selection at Spikecon
Since this convention is both a Westercon and a NASFiC, we will be conducting two site selection votes at the convention. Spikecon will conduct the elections to select the site of the 2021 Westercon and the 2020 North American Science Fiction Convention (NASFiC).
To vote in either of these elections, you must be an attending or supporting member of Spikecon (Westercon 72, NASFiC 2019, 1632 Minicon & Manticon 2019). At the time you vote, you will pay an additional amount called the Advance Supporting Membership fee, which is a supporting membership in the Westercon or NASFiC, regardless of which site wins the election. This money goes to the winning Westercon or NASFiC bid regardless of who wins or how you voted.
Since no bids have filed prior to January 1, 2019 for the right to hold the 2021 West Coast Science Fantasy Conference (Westercon 74), then the entire Westercon region, as defined by Section 3.1 of the Westercon Bylaws is eligible to run for Westercon 74.
If your group wants to bid to host Westercon 74 (2021), you need to file the required documents with Westercon 72 (2019, Layton).
The documents are:
1. A cover letter declaring your intent to bid and listing at least two officers (Chair and Treasurer) and the specific dates you plan to hold your Westercon should you win.
2. An organizing document (such as bylaws).
3. A letter of intent or similar document from your proposed facility.
Only bids filed on or before April 15, 2019 will appear on the Westercon site selection ballot. For the detailed rules for Westercon, including the exact specification of the bidding zones and filing requirements, see Article 3 of the Westercon Bylaws in the Current Papers section of the Westercon web site at http://www.westercon.org/organization/business/
Bids can also submit their documents through post mail to:
Utah Fandom Organization c/o Site Selection
P.O. Box 201
Clearfield, Utah 84089-0201
As of April 15th, two bids have filed and will be on the ballot. One bid filed for Tonopah, NV. The filing papers for Tonopah are here. The second bid filed for Phoenix, AZ. The filing papers for Phoenix are here. Other bids may file as writeins, but will not appear on the ballot.
(One exception: If no bid gets a majority needed to elect in the Westercon 2021 race, the decision will be voted on site in the business meeting, Saturday, July 6th, to be announced time frame in the schedule and per Westercon Bylaws. For more information on these exceptions see our business pages for links to the Westercon Bylaws)
